Spotlight on Italy

In travel as in life, there are a few basic truths to live by. One of these, in our opinion, is "There is never a bad time to go to Italy."

Whether you are there to celebrate food festivals in the spring, soak in the Mediterranean sun in the height of summer, or visit timeless landmarks in winter, there are always places to explore and things to learn in this magnificent country.  2016 is also a Jubilee Year, being declared by Pope Francis the Holy Year of Mercy, which adds extra significance to visiting Italy’s religious sites for people of faith.  If you are even thinking of journeying to Italy in 2016 or 2017, we can’t wait to talk to you.  Give us a call to start planning today!

Hart Travel Partners (HTP) is no stranger to Italy, and we have had the opportunity to create a number of travel programs that focus on its main cities and off-the-beaten-path places.  In Rome, we don’t just visit the Colosseum; we learn how to be gladiators at the Castrum Legionis gladiator school

In Venice, we tour the canals and the world-famous La Fenice opera house as well.  In Florence, you can visit the David, the Duomo, and the Piazza della Signoria, but we will also provide you with the opportunity to stay at a place like the Villa Morghen, where you can enjoy sweeping views of the city while teaching your own courses in rooms equipped with the conveniences of your classroom.

Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean and an incredible melting pot of Greek, Roman, Arab, Norman, Vandal, Byzantine, German and Italian people, is becoming a popular destination for HTP in Italy.  Some of the most stunning ancient ruins are to be found here, including the Valley of the Temples, the Villa Romana del Casale and Morgantina, but fascinating architecture from many eras can be found throughout the island.  The tight-knit communities of Sicily are connected, of course, through food, much of which comes from the sea.  Tuna, sardines, swordfish and anchovies can be found in local markets and in family dinners.  And no trip to Sicily would be complete without a cannoli, a local delicacy!

As the meeting point for many cultures and the birthplace of so many historical epochs, Italy is a natural place to integrate into any number of academic coursesArt history, food and culture, mythology and ancient storytelling, the path of civilizations through trade and conquest, music and theatre, architecture—all of this and more can be studied in Italy.  You can start with a particular ancient ruin or work of art that you are interested in, and HTP can build you a travel program from there.  Or you can come to us with a fully-realized academic curriculum and we will put the logistics in place for youBuon viaggio!

Kind Regards,
