International Law and Politics take center stage on this faculty led program with overnights in Strasbourg, Luxembourg, Brussels, The Hague and Amsterdam. Learn about the role of the EU and the UN on in depth visits to various member institutions and discover the beauty and culture of the cities they call home.

In Strasbourg you’ll visit the European Quarter, home to twenty European Institutions including the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.

Luxembourg

Discover the beauty of Holland as you travel to The Hague and Amsterdam.

Day-by-Day Details

 

Day 1: Overnight Flight

  • Sit back and relax for your overnight flight to Strasbourg, France.

Day 2: Strasbourg

  • Arrive Strasbourg. Meet Travel Director. Transfer to your centrally located hotel.

  • Walking tour of Strasbourg (Petite France, possible evening boat ride.)

  • Tarte Flambe dinner.

Day 3: Strasbourg

  • Visit the European Court of Human Rights. Your informational visit will include the screening of a documentary “The Conscience of Europe” followed by a presentation on the role and work of the Court. The presentation may also take place after the group has attended a hearing.

  • Enjoy a free afternoon to discover more of Strasbourg.

  • DInner

Day 4: Luxembourg

  • This morning attend a legal lecture at a local university or meet with local law students.

  • Later transfer to Luxembourg

  • Enjoy a walking tour with your Travel Director before dinner.


Day 5: Luxembourg

  • Visit the Court of Justice of the European Union, the judicial branch of the European Union. Your study visit will include attendance at a hearing of oral argument, presentations (followed by question and answer sessions) given by members of staff of the Court of Justice and meetings with the Members of the institution.

Day 6: Brussels

  • Transfer to Brussels.

  • Visit the Palace of Justice.

  • On a walking tour, visit the City Center and see the famous Mannekin Pis, continue on to the Unesco World Heritage Site, Grand Place.

  • DInner

Day 7: Brussels

  • Visit the Parlamentarium and participate in a role play which will give you a crash course in European lawmaking as you negotiate new legislation for the European Union.

  • This afternoon visit the Atomium, built for the1958 World’s Fair.

  • Dinner

Day 8: The Hague

  • Trsf to the Hague via Bruges.

  • Walking tour Bruges

  • Dinner

Day 9: The Hague

  • Visit ICC. (Visit includes a talk on the mandate, structure and the activities of the court (1.5 hour) and attending a hearing if possible.

  • Dinner

Day 10: The Hague

  • Visit the ICTY. Begins 9:30. Visit 2.5 hours.lecture and discussion with Tribunal representatives can be arranged according to group interests.

Day 11: The Hague

  • Visit ICJ. Presentation (1 hour) on the history, workings and activities of the court.) Visit the Peace Palace (visitor center and guided tour)

  • Dinner

Day 12: Amsterdam

  • Transfer to Amsterdam

  • Orientation Tour

  • Dinner

Day 13: Amsterdam

  • Visit Anne Frank House

  • Visit the Rijksmuseum

  • Farewell Dinner
